A real-life Volvo wheel loader accompanied a fleet of miniature Lego replicas at BRICK 2014.

An 11-tonne L60G-Series took centre stage at the Lego fan convention, which was held at ExCel London Exhibition and Convention Centre in the United Kingdom.

The appearance came following the release Lego Technic’s shrunken take on Volvo Construction Equipment’s largest loader – the L350F – earlier this year.

“Our L60G wheel loader was used to represent the Lego Technic L350F model, as we thought the real L350F might not get through the doors,” explained Nick Allen, managing director of Volvo CE’s UK dealership, Volvo GB.

“It’s great to see children interacting with the model, and it’s a great opportunity for children to associate with Volvo machines from a young age.

“They could even become future customers or operators,” he added.

The Volvo L60G offered its bucket as a stage for a miniature quarry. Lego enthusiasts, both young and old, test drove a remote-controlled Technic model, honing their operating skills by loading gravel into a small-scale Volvo CE A25F 4x4 articulated hauler.

“I liked playing with the toy because you can try and get a really full bucket and unload it into the other machine without dropping any,” commented Lewis Adie, a 10-year-old fan from London.

“If I was at home, I could pick up things and take them to other rooms and drop them off.

“It was hard at first, and I kept spilling the gravel, but once I had learnt the controls, I became good at it,” he said.

Although the L60G dwarfed its Lego counterparts in terms of size, visitors were nevertheless impressed with the standard of the Technic model.

“The new wheel loader kit is amazing, and brings back memories of when I was young and played with my brother’s Technic sets,” said Lego enthusiast, Gareth Witcomb.

Volvo CE pointed out that whilst its miniature counterparts are available from all reputable toy stores, the L350F can only be procured from its authorised distributors – and just in time for Christmas.
