Caterpillar has promoted Tom Pellette to the position of Construction Industries (CI) group president.

The long-serving employee has spent more than two decades at Cat’s Solar Turbines Division, where he most recently served as president.

As part of the move, Pellette will join Caterpillar’s Executive Committee.

Construction Industries is the core of the Caterpillar brand and product,” said Pellette, commenting on his latest appointment.

“I think most of us grew up seeing Cat equipment at construction sites in our hometowns. For me, Cat yellow always stood for quality, rugged, durable, and capable machinery.

“Having spent such a large part of my career outside of San Diego and interfacing with many other Caterpillar divisions and teammates, I was exposed to the work of CI and have been impressed with its results in some extremely challenging markets.

“I am really excited to join this team,” he added.

Since joining Cat’s Solar Turbines Division in 1993, Pellette has held a range of sales, engineering and product support positions with increasing responsibility. He gained leadership experience in the European, Asian, and US markets during this period.

Although Pellette concedes that his latest role will involve a steep learning curve, he is confident in his abilities to build on the work of his predecessors.

“I have much to familiarise myself with in CI over the next few months,” he explained.

“First and foremost, we have to deliver for our customers, partners, and shareholders. Longer term, I hope to build on the great work of [the CI team] by focusing on our business model and specifically, life-cycle operating profit after capital charge (OPACC).

“That is the world I grew up in at Solar, and I believe in it,” concluded Pellette.
