Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has inaugurated the Mai Dubai bottled water plant.

Commercial production of Mai Dubai-branded drinking water began in March 2014, but the company claims its latest plant technologies will enable it to increase its production capacity by 400% “in the near future”.

The factory, which is situated in Yalayis - within the Dubai Investments Park, forms part of DEWA’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams.

“The project is one of the main pillars of DEWA’s plans to diversify revenue streams by investing in new ventures,” commented HE Matar Humaid Al Tayer, chairman of DEWA.

“The plant uses the latest technologies and best global practices and quality standards in sterilisation and purification in producing bottled drinking water. The plant produces drinking water that has low sodium levels and a balanced range of minerals.

“[Mai Dubai] has already become a popular brand in the UAE within a short time,” added Al Tayer.

Joining Al Tayer at the plant’s inauguration were a selection of other local stakeholders, including HH Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and president of DEWA. Dignitaries in attendance toured the various areas of the facility, and received detailed explanations of its operational capabilities.

The plant’s production lines include small- and medium-sized bottles of 1.5 litre, 500ml, and 330ml, as well as five-gallon bottles. Mai Dubai’s cup line is available in 200ml and 100ml.

Mai Dubai is an independent, limited liability company (LLC) with 99% of its shares owned by DEWA.
