UAE: Ford to address aluminium recycling benefits
Ford will use Abu Dhabi’s AluSolutions exhibition as a platform to highlight how it recycles enough aluminium to build 30,000 F-150 pickup truck bodies every month
Ford will take its latest F-150 model to Abu Dhabi’s AluSolutions exhibition in a bid to highlight the benefits of aluminium recycling.
The latest iteration of the US automotive giant’s best-selling pickup model sports a body made from high-strength, military-grade aluminium, rather than the conventional choice of steel.
The closed-loop system at Ford’s Dearborn Stamping Plant recycles nine-million kilograms of aluminium stamping scrap every month – enough to build 30,000 F-150 pickup truck bodies.
The manufacturer claims that opting for aluminium over steel in new automobile construction is the best way to reduce energy consumption.
Commenting on the environmental benefits of recycled materials, Ziyad Dallalah, chief engineer at Ford Middle East, said: “Recycled aluminium avoids 95% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with primary aluminium production.
It also uses significantly less energy and water, which is another reason the Ford F-150 leads the full-size truck pack in terms of lifetime carbon footprint,” he added.
AluSolutions 2016 will take place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 10-11 May.
