UD Trucks is planning the global launch of the Croner, an all-new medium duty truck targeting growth markets across the Middle-East, Africa, Asia and South America, on 1 March, 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand – the country where the vehicle line is being manufactured.

The Croner is designed to be a reliable and versatile truck range built with robust components that will deliver extra productivity and superior uptime. The vehicle was designed with the support of the Volvo Group’s global technology system and its exacting quality expectations.

Named in homage to Cronos, the god of time in Greek mythology, the Croner is engineered to help customers stay ahead of the competition through the simple concept of saving time.

“It is our aim for Croner to make every moment count, through maximizing productivity and minimizing downtime on every run our customers make,” said Nobuhiko Kishi, senior vice president of UD Trucks brand and product.

For UD Trucks, the Croner is the latest example of the company’s rich legacy of building the “truck the world needs today”, and it is expected to excel in the medium duty segment in its target markets.

The company also claims that the Croner draws from the best of three worlds: UD’s strong Japanese heritage and craftsmanship, the Volvo Group’s global technology system, and a lean management approach in manufacturing, sourcing and support in Thailand.

In mid 2016, UD Trucks also launched a GCC-specific line of its heavy-duty Quester range in the Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman.

UD Trucks was established in Japan in 1935, and is headquartered in Ageo, Saitama. It became a part of the Volvo Group in 2007 and today has a sales network of more than 60 countries worldwide.
