Wabco to supply power steering systems to Tata Motors
Wabco is its expanding its steering business beyond the US with its first major deal in India.
Wabco has signed an agreement with Tata Motors to supply power steering systems. This is Wabco's first major steering system deal in India following its September 2017 acquisition of US-based R.H. Sheppard, a supplier of industry-leading steering technologies for commercial vehicles.
As a full systems tier one supplier, Wabco will provide its hydraulic power steering systems, to help Tata Motors meet increasing demand for new heavy-duty trucks locally following recent legislation changes to restrict axle weight loads. Wabco’s M110 heavy-duty hydraulic power steering gears and assemblies meet Tata Motors’ power-steering performance and reliability requirements.
Jorge Solis, president-truck, bus and car OEM division, Wabco, said: “This steering technology agreement with Tata Motors in India enables Wabco to globalise its technology portfolio. Augmenting our advanced driver assistance and braking systems with our steering systems capability helps us serve OEMs in every market.”
P. Kaniappan, managing director, Wabco India, said: “The introduction of Wabco’s steering systems for the first time in India further differentiates our strong partnership with Tata Motors, while helping them to meet this additional level of demand. As the only commercial vehicle supplier able to offer both braking and steering capabilities in India, Wabco is uniquely placed to provide our customers with increasingly higher levels of automation."
