Big buckets for tough working conditions: Komatsu launches the PC210-10M0 and the PC500LC-10R hydraulic excavators in the Middle East

Both the excavators are designed to operate in severe heat, sand and dust conditions and provide higher bucket capacity and fuel economy compared to previous models.

The PC210-10M0 excavator has an operating weight of 20,400–21,100kg, and bucket selection of 0.8–1.20m3. The 1m3 HD bucket allows material density of up to 1.8t/m3, and the 1.2m3 GP bucket allows material density of up to 1.5t/m3.

Compared to the PC200-8MO model, the stability of the PC210-10M0 has been improved by increasing the counterweight and extending the rear-end radius. The lifting capacity of the PC210-10M0 is 5% more than that of the PC200-8MO.

The engine power of the PC210-10M0 is 123kW, 12% higher than that of the PC200-8MO (110kW). Improved hydraulic control provides more power for digging in the power mode (P mode). The digging power can be increased further, temporarily, for 8.5s of operation by pressing the one-touch power max. switch. Higher engine power makes traveling in the P mode easier, particularly uphill or uneven terrain. The traveling output power of the PC210-10M0 is 15% higher than that of the PC200-8MO.

The fuel consumption of the PC210-10M0 has been reduced with improvement in engine combustion efficiency by optimizing fuel injection control; reduction of hydraulic pressure loss by changing the internal shape of the control valves, piping diameter and fitting; reduction of fan speed and fan drive loss by using a speed controlled viscous fan clutch and large-diameter fan; and enhancement in engine-pump matching control. If the engine idles for 5 minutes or more, and idling caution is displayed on the monitor in the cab. The economy mode (E mode), which can be adjusted from E0 to E4, is used to reduce fuel consumption. The fuel consumption of the PC210-10M0 is 20% lower than that of the PC200-8MO.

The engine oil and fuel system filters are integrated on one side of the excavator to allow easy maintenance and service. Cleaning of the cooling unit has been made easier by making the automatic air conditioner capacitor a hinge structure.
The replacement interval of the hydraulic oil filter has been increased from 1,000h to 2,500h. The replacement time for the oil and filters are displayed on the monitor. If the hydraulic oil filter is clogged, a message is displayed on the monitor to replace the filter.

The PC500LC-10R excavator has an operating weight of 49,400–51,300kg and bucket selection of 2.5–4m3. The standard specification has bucket selection up to 3.1m3. The 2.5m3 HD bucket allows material density of up to 1.8t/m3, and the 3.1m3 GP bucket allows material density of up to 1.5t/m3.

The super earthmover (SE) specification provides increased productivity with large capacity buckets. For the SE specification with 2.4m arm, the 3.5m3 HD bucket allows material density of up to 1.8t/m3, and the 4m3 GP bucket allows material density of up to 1.5t/m3. For the SE specification with 2.9m arm, the 3m3 HD bucket allows material density of up to 1.8t/m3, and the 3.7m3 GP bucket allows material density of up to 1.5t/m3.

Engine management of the PC500LC-10R has been enhanced with variable speed matching of the engine, hydraulic pump and viscous fan clutch. Fuel consumption has been improved with optimization of the fuel injection control, reduction of hydraulic pressure loss, reduction of fan speed and fan drive loss. Large displacement hydraulic pumps provide high flow output at low engine RPM. An idling caution is displayed on the monitor if the engine idles for 5 minutes or more. If the engine idles for a certain time, the engine stops automatically to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The duration before engine shutdown can be programmed. The E mode is used to reduce fuel consumption. The fuel consumption of the PC500LC-10R is 11% lower than that of the PC450-8R.

The P mode is employed for the maximum digging force. When more power is needed, the one-touch power max. button provides a digging force increase for 8.5 seconds of operation. The engine power and bucket digging force of the PC500LC-10R are 269kW and 303kN, 5% and 9% higher than those of the PC450-8R (257kW and 277kN), respectively.

Centralized filters of the PC500LC-10R provides access to all filters in the pump room. Similar to the PC210-10M0, the replacement time for the oil and filters are displayed on the monitor. If the hydraulic oil filter is clogged, a message is displayed on the monitor to replace the filter.

The Middle East is one of the seven strategic markets for Komatsu; the other markets include Latin America, CIS, China, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. These markets combined generated 54% of the construction, mining and utility equipment sales in FY2018.

In 2019, Komatsu’s opened one of its largest warehousing and training facilities outside Japan, in Dubai. The 17,000m2 facility which includes a machine demonstration area with a viewing stand enables Komatsu to showcase its heavy machinery to customers in the Middle East and provide a high standard of training for its operatives and servicing teams, while also functioning as its regional parts distribution hub.

The launch event of the PC210-10M0 and the PC500LC-10R excavators was held at Komatsu’s training and demonstration centre in Dubai, attracting over 100 Visitors from the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.
