Mak Middle East, a Caterpillar company established in Dubai in 2017, is expanding its UAE footprint with a branch in Fujairah and registrations in the Sharjah Ports of Hamriyah Freezone, Al Khalid and Khor Fakkan. Mak Middle East is the only factory authorized distribution operation for Caterpillar’s medium speed engine brands MaK, CM and EMD in the GCC, Yemen, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.

In response to customer demand, Mak Middle East has expanded its UAE service engineer team covering the MaK, EMD and the Napier and KBB turbocharger brands by transferring Caterpillar employees from the UK and Singapore operations. Turbocharger service engineers and technicians are trained and certified at the Napier factory in Lincoln in the UK and the KBB factory in Bannewitz, Germany.

According to the company, the access to Fujairah Port will help it cater to local Mak powered vessel owners as well as European cargo customers transiting through the Middle East and using the Fujairah anchorage. The expanded EMD service team in Dubai will provide EMD factory direct service work on rigs and vessels in the Middle East including Dubai, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and the addition of the Sharjah ports will expand the service delivery reach of this relocated service team. In all of these new locations, Mak Middle East will be offering a comprehensive range of turbocharger maintenance, overhaul, repair, upgrading and modification services.

Alan Naisby, managing director, Mak Middle East and Mak Asia, said: “We identified a high volume of Mak powered vessels docking in Fujairah in previous years. That’s why we want to be closer to our customers to ensure we can provide high quality factory engine service where the customer needs it in an efficient, effective and timely way.  The expansion of the MaK and EMD portfolio of products and services in the Middle East region and the UAE in particular corresponds to our steadfast commitment at Caterpillar to be a one-stop parts and service provider for marine, oil & gas and powerplant customers.”

Mak Middle East operates its main UAE workshop in Dubai Maritime City and provides factory direct product support services in the Middle East region for Caterpillar’s MaK, CM and EMD branded medium speed engines. The DMC workshop caters to customer needs for high quality factory after-sales support in the region.
