Lampoldshausen, the headquarters of the German Aerospace Center, develops the technology for European space travel. The upper station drives for the Ariane launch rockets are tested at this facility. The tests are planned in great detail with the process flows monitored and timed precisely. The rotary crane on the building roof plays an important role in preparing these tests. The ageing crane system was in need of an upgrade. Konecranes upgraded the crane system by dismantling the counterweight of 5.5. tonnes before removing the main structure of the 13.8-tonne crane. This was removed with the help of two truck-mounted cranes and placed on the terrain surface. For the transport, a special screwed joint was fitted between the boom and the 3.2-tonne base section for safety and stability. In a preparation hall, crane experts removed the remaining paint layer by sandblasting. Then following a comprehensive welding program, the steel structure was successfully reinforced and statically recalculated. Finally, the crane system received an entirely new coat of paint to protect it from the elements. The upgraded rotary crane is able to move loads of up to 5 tonnes with an outreach of 15 meters. Additionally, with an outreach of 10.3 meters, it is now possible to transport loads of up to 7.5 tonnes.

Groupe Renault, Morbihan Energie, Les Cars Bleus and Enedis have joined forces to create FlexMob’île, a programme to facilitate the energy transition on the French island of Belle-Île-en-Mer. The smart electric ecosystem is founded on three core activities, namely the sharing of electric vehicles, the stationary storage of solar energy and smart charging. From 2019, Belle-Île-en-Mer residents and visitors to the island will have access to a fleet of electric cars by means of a self-service hire programme featuring Renault ZOE and Kangoo Z.E. The vehicles will be powered using a network of charging stations located close to the island's main attractions. This new carsharing service will take advantage of surplus energy produced by solar panels installed on the roofs of the island’s main public buildings.

The Renault EZ-Pro is an autonomous, electric, connected and shared robo-pod concept aimed at agile, last-mile delivery. In EZ-PRO, the leader pod hosts a human concierge who supervises the delivery of goods and services and its fleet. The fleet of driverless robo-pods either follow each other by platooning or can move independently. EZ-PRO is a shared solution. A convoy of pods leaving from the same hub and managed by the same logistics operator can carry different types of goods and merchandise, each pod having its own paymaster, theme, clientele and delivery place. They are however operated by the same electric and autonomous platform. In the same manner, a pod can make a series of deliveries for one online store and another series for a different store.
